Race start spectacle
Each year on Boxing Day, the race start is an unforgettable sight, attracting hundreds of thousands of spectators along Sydney Harbour and its surrounding cliffs. As the starting gun echoes across the water, the fleet of sleek racing yachts springs into action. Sails fill with the breeze as yachts skilfully navigate the choppy harbour, jostling for position within inches of each other.
The yachts then push towards Sydney Heads, the dramatic passage from the harbour to the open sea. Once they pass through the Heads, they leave the sheltered waters behind, heading south along the coast. With towering cliffs on one side and the vast expanse of the Tasman Sea on the other, the fleet spreads out and gains speed, with the fastest boats leading the way toward Hobart.

After witnessing the start, our cruise will follow the race leaders through Sydney Heads and along the coastline, giving you an unforgettable vantage point as the yachts begin their journey south.
